While I was in a movie theater last weekend to see Sex and the City, I nearly walked into this huge cardboard display (pictured on the left) promoting High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Which premieres. In theaters (unlike the other two movies which were solely for the small screen). In late October. Four months from now.
Isn't this in-theaters promotion a tad early?
My daughter is an enthusiastic HSM aficionado. Her 9th birthday party last year was scheduled around the world premiere of HSM 2. Her room is decorated with a large HSM poster and other assorted paraphernalia.
But hyping a film four months in advance? You're going to make everyone -- specifically parents of tweens and teens -- sick of HSM 3 before it's even released. Trying NOT to drive parents crazy with over-hype, it could be the start of something new.
